What’s behind LifeCycles?

Dr Barry Devlin
July 2005

LifeCycles is based on astrology; but before you jump to the conclusion that I can predict the future for you, or for anyone—let me tell you that I can’t.  However, time—past, present and future—is at the heart of astrology.  And, as a result, time is of the essence of LifeCycles, not in the sense of predicting events that will happen, but rather as a way of forecasting the atmosphere that permeates your life at any time.  How you react to this "life weather" when it arrives is up to you.

Web of life

The opening paragraph begs a couple of questions that need to be answered, however briefly, before we delve into the theory of LifeCycles.  First, what is astrology?  Or to be more precise, what is my approach to astrology?  In my experience, astrology provides an insight into the inner workings of the human psyche, in the broadest meaning of an overused word.  An individual’s birth chart reveals a wealth of information about the "internal wiring" of that person at a range of levels from the conscious to the unconscious, and even to supra-conscious levels that might perhaps be called soul.  Therefore, I see astrology as a tool to gain an understanding of how an individual mind works.

Second, the old question of predicting the future.  In my opinion, predicting the future raises all sorts of questions about fate and free will that can’t easily be answered.  For example, if I predict that you will be knocked down by a truck when crossing the road tomorrow, will you go out as normal then or stay in bed for the day?  So, rather than speculate, I choose to believe that while some aspects of our lives may be fated in some way, they probably cannot be predicted, and if they could, we may be better off not knowing them; and for the rest, we have free will to operate to the full extent of what we believe is possible.

So, let’s get down to LifeCycles.
